  1. Character Unlockables

    Characters have alternate skins and loadouts that can be unlocked for use. This is how to get them:

    Unlockable
    Clear the neutral route with any character to unlock their alternate loadout Alternate Loadout
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Gunner or have one spell in your deck Gunner Buccaneer Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Hazel or have zero max Mana Hazel Priestess Skin
    Clear a run while at unlock level 15 or higher Hazel Queen Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Reva or have over 9.999 Shield Reva Cyber Skin
    Defeat Saffron during any route Saffron Classic Skin
    Obtain a Calamity spell Saffron Lea Skin
    Have a spell from every Focus in your deck Saffron Legacy Skin
    Clear the genocide route as Saffron Saffron Solo Loadout
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Saffron Saffron Witch Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Selicy or defeat Gunner or Shiso with a Slashfik spell Selicy Catgirl Skin
    Defeat Selicy during the Christmas season Selicy Holiday Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Shiso or win a boss fight with just 1 HP remaining Shiso High Noon Skin
    Defeat Terrable as Shopkeeper Shopkeeper Legacy Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Terra or have at least 16 broken tiles at the same time Terra Dreadwyrm Heir Skin
    Clear the pacifist route with Hell Pass 7 active Terra Terrable Skin
    Clear the pacifist/genocide route as Violette or defeat the last enemy with the Fadeaway spell Violette Rockband Skin

  2. Unlockable Characters

    Many characters can be unlocked by defeating them at Stage 3 or beyond, with one exception.

    Characters have alternate skins and loadouts that can be unlocked. It depends on which ending you finish on. Some skins can also be unlocked via in-game achievements.

  2. Unlocking characters

    Every character except one is unlocked by defeating them past a certain stage, whether you win or lose the run in the end.

    Defeat the Shopkeeper at any point during a run Shopkeeper
    Defeat a character in stage 4 or beyond to unlock that character Unlock characters
