Marble Zone Act 2 Hidden Room
About halfway through Marble Zone Act 2, you're tasked with riding a block left across a lava pit. Normally, you're supposed to keep riding it until you reach the far end, at which a lava eruption will launch the block upwards and let you reach the next section of the level. But if you miss the ledge and fall underneath it, you'll land on another block in the corner of the lava pit. If you keep walking into the wall next to it, you'll find 2 ring monitors and an extra life. You can actually see this hidden area early if you have Sonic look up while crossing the swinging platforms in the room prior to the lava pit.

Marble Zone Act 3 Hidden Room
Play through Marble Zone Act 3 until you reach two spike elevators. Jump atop the one on the right, and then jump toward the upper right corner of the wall. There's a passageway that leads to a hidden room that contains an extra life. If you jump toward the upper right section of the wall in this room, you'll find another passageway that lets you skip about 1/3rd of the level.

Marble Zone Act 1 Hidden Room
Play through Marble Zone Act 1 until you reach the second spike elevator. Jump towards the upper part of the wall on the left as the elevator as it's going up. There's a passageway that leads to a hidden room, which contains 4 ring monitors and an extra life.

Spring Yard Zone Act 2 Shortcut
When you take the lower route in Spring Yard Zone Act 2, you'll eventually reach what looks like a dead end. There's just a wall with a yellow spring in front of it; you're supposed to spring up to reach a red spring, then a set of platforms, and climb until you reach the top of the level. However, you can skip this entirely. Jump on the yellow spring while pressing right towards the wall. You'll find a passageway that's aligned at the same height as the red spring. Go through it, and you'll gain access to a fenced-off tunnel that cuts through a portion of the level.

Scrap Brain Zone Act 2 Hidden Transporter
When you're playing Scrap Brain Zone Act 2, take the time to collect and keep as many rings as you possibly can, even if it means taking a slower route and backtracking a little bit. Eventually, you'll reach a hallway section with a conveyor belt and circular saws, followed by electrified floor traps and flamethrowers. Getting through there lets you reach a transporter. Normally, it just sends you to the next part of the level. But if you have at least 50 rings, it will transport you twice; you'll be sent to a hidden upper area with a far easier route.

At the title screen, press Up, Down, Left, Right. You should hear a noise like a ring being collected. Then, hold A and press Start for a level select!

Config Mode
There is a code called control mode, which is required before activating this code.
To activate control mode, press UP, C, DOWN, C, LEFT, C, RIGHT, C at the title screen, but before pressing start to begin the game, press and hold A as you hit start. Now, rather than just being in control mode, you can enable config mode by pressing button B.
Sonic will morph into a ring, and the arrows can move him anywhere, even in the air, or through obstacles such as walls, floors, or even ceilings {GREAT FOR TELEPORTING!}.
You can change the item Sonic appears as by hitting A while in config mode. Button B makes Sonic normal again, and button C will place the sprite that you have selected for Sonic to appear as. For example, you press B, and Sonic becomes a ring, press C to make a ring appear exactly where the ring icon is.
WARNING!: This will distort several different things, such as the score, time, and other various icons throughout the game such as the finish sign at the end of the first two acts of each zone that spins when Sonic shoots past them, and the small score icons that appear whenever Sonic jumps high enough after finishing a level. That is all I have noticed in my time playing the game, but there could be more out there yet. The game is still quite playable this way, so it should not hurt you.Contributed by: Ryo_Death

Walk through walls in Marble Zone
When you ride the green block accross a sea of lave, there are a couple of big blocks in front of you with rings on. If you hold the D-PAD DOWN button, Sonic will crouch. The green block will go underneath the blocks, but sonic will remain on it, and pass through the walls. Note that this ONLY WORKS WHILE CROUCHING

Secret Game Message
At the title screen, press C,C,C,C,C,C,Up, Down, Left, Right. When the demo starts, hold A, B, C, Down then press Start. Instead of the Sonic Team logo, you will see a list of the game's developers in Japanese. When the title screen appears, a flashing "Press Start Button" will be there under Sonic's head.

Press B to enable Config mode, that Sonic morphs into a ring. Obtain Chaos Emeralds Easier
Using the level select cheat, scroll down and select "Special Stage". Upon completion on the stage, you will receive a chaos emerald, and begin playing your game on the first stage. At this point, RESET the game via the RESET button on your Genesis, re-enter the level select code, and repeat the process. You will enter the next Special Stage level, and have a chance to earn the 2nd Emerald. You can repeat this process over and over until you have all 6 Chaos Emeralds. However, once you have all six, do NOT reset the system and select a level, or else you will lose them all.

255 lives glitch
On act 3 of labyrinth zone, there is a spot where you have to hold onto a bar, and slide down to avoid the spikes. When you get here, you need to have only 1 life, and no rings. then wait at the spot just before this and wait until you start drowning. Then, wait until the counter is between 3 and 2, then get pulled by the suction. When you are holding on to the bar, wait until it hits 0, then let go at the exact moment the music stops, so you hit the spikes. If you do it at the right moment, it should say game over, but then itll go back to the beginning of the level. The lives counter should look a bit odd. This means you have 255 lives.
If you collect another life, it should show the lives count as 0, but you will have 256 lives, or more.Contributed by: retroboy1827

Green Hill Zone Act 3 Waterfall
When you're playing Green Hill Zone Act 3, take the lower route. Eventually, you'll come across a spring with a row of spikes behind it, and then a large waterfall behind the spikes. It looks like a dead end. Normally, you're supposed to use the spring to reach the platform above you to get past the waterfall. Instead, jump over the spring so you land in between it and the spikes. Then jump over the spikes and behind the waterfall itself. You'll be rewarded with 5 ring monitors and an extra life. The spring and spikes that come after this hidden area are the real dead end.

Labyrinth Zone Act 3 Shortcut
Near the beginning of Labyrinth Zone Act 3, you have to cross a room with spears that poke up from the floor. If you jump between the 2nd and 3rd spears, you'll land on a block that will start sinking as you stand on it. Let yourself fall through the hole. This leads to another tunnel that eventually ends next to the last checkpoint before the boss fight.

Labyrinth Zone Act 1 Shortcut
Near the beginning of Labyrinth Zone Act 1, you fall into a pool with switches to the left and right of you. Instead of moving forward to the right, hit the left switch and take the elevator to go back to the surface. You'll find that hitting the left switch has activated a hidden platform on the surface of the water. It will take you across the pool and into a tunnel that skips most of the level.

Scrap Brain 3 shortcut
At the start of Scrap Brain Zone Act 3, there is a switch that activates a platform in front of it. If you are fast enough (which you are), You can run under the platform and skip a good chunk of the level.

Glitch 255 Lives in Green Hill Zone Act2
Have only one life in Green Hill Zone act2, go under the last waterfall and find Newtron, accompany him to the end of the level (no rings!). Complete the stage, Newtron will kill you, you will get Game Over but go to the next stage. You will have hundreds of lives and a bug counter!

Hidden Options Menu
Start a new game on the "No Save Mode," and as soon as the SEGA logo fully appears, quickly tap the letters S-E-G-A in order. You should hear a ring sound if done correctly. Then hold down on the screen anywhere with both thumbs and continue to hold through the title screen and you will be taken to the hidden options menu.

Play as any character without unlocking them
To access this you first will have to enter the level select menu by starting a new game with no save. Then you will have to press the sega logo when it appears in the order of s-e-g-a. When it says to start put two fingers on the screen and swipe up. Then where you see player you can select the character you want. 01 for sonic, 02 for tails, 03 for knukcles, 00 for sonic and tails.

Hidden Credits
Tap on 'A', 'G', 'E' 'S' in that order, then you will get a chime, and instead of "Sonic Team Presents" showing up, a white background with Japanese text shows instead, which is the hidden credits. Also, by doing this, Tails' name will change to Miles.
