While the game may look fun to play, I would highly urge you to avoid it at all cost.
+ This game is basically a Prince of Persia/God of War clone. There is combat where you must fight large groups of enemies and there are also platforming elements to get through. Unfortunately, it does nothing new for the genre and thus feels highly derivative.
The combat involves four basic moves. A weak attack, a strong attack, a grab, and a block. You are also able to string three attacks together for a combo (for example: weak, weak, strong). You have one sword throughout the game and then near the end you also acquire a mace. By killing enemies you gain experience for your weapon and level it up, unlocking new combos and a stronger attack.
There are a number of different enemy types. Some you can just spam attacks until they die. Others you have to wear down and then grab once a symbol appears over them. After the grab you must perform a quick time event combination of directional keys to perform a killing move. While I'm not a real big fan of QTEs, it does offer some variety but at the same time it tends to be used too much in the game. Near the end of the game the enemies grow a lot stronger and a lot harder to fight, especially when you have to take on three of them at once.
The platforming is very basic. You'll be jumping over spiked logs, running through blades, jumping across platforms, pulling levers. All the things you've done before in a similar game. There are never any real hard puzzles and the platforming is as basic as you can get.
The camera is interesting to mention. It is a static camera and by that I mean you don't control the camera directly. It stays in one location and follows you when you move. This helps in some areas, but there are other times when it just becomes a bother. Take what you will from it, but I think I'd prefer a camera I can control.
I also have to say there are TONS of invisible walls. So much so that it becomes irritating to run around and explore because you just stop. At least they could have attempted to put actual barriers in the game. It's a very amateur mistake to include this many invisible walls.
The final boss is a real pain in the ass too. The entire game was rather easy and then the boss comes and is way more difficult than anything you've ever faced before. I died at least a dozen times trying to fight him and it quickly became a very frustrating experience instead of a fun challenge. I don't mind difficult games but after breezing through the entire game and then dying over and over at the boss it felt disconnected for me.
While I appreciate the effort, and the game does have moments of fun, it just doesn't feel worth the time. You'd be better off playing a similar game that has done it already and done it better.
Story/Presentation: 2/5
+ The story only involves a few moments of narration to explain what's happening. And that was definitely not enough to feel any sense of immersion or connection. I think the story is based off of mythology but I'm not certain. Either way, this game doesn't structure the story part of it very well. I finished the game and I'm still not sure I could tell you exactly what was going on. And the main character is basically just like a piece of stone with no distinct characteristics or emotions.
Graphics: 2/5
+ The game may seem like a decent graphical feat for an indie developer, but it is riddle with problems. First let me say that the game crashed three times on me. And not a simple crash to desktop, I got a blue screen crash that did an entire memory dump on my computer and forced a restart. I've played over two hundred games on my computer from the most strenuous graphics to the simplest indie games, and I have never experienced something like this. Clearly the game has huge bugs in it and you should be well aware when you buy this that it is extremely risky and unstable. After two crashes I was tempted to give it up and attempt a refund but I guess I had more patience than I imagined.
There are plenty of graphical glitches too. A lot of camera stuttering when you move. The menus are very slow and laggy. It just feels like a very poorly optimized game that could actually be doing damage to your computer. All I'm saying is be careful.
Value: 2/5
+ The game lasted less than four hours, so it is clearly a very short adventure. It's kind of funny how they initially priced the game at $20 but within two months it's already reduced to $10. I bought it on sale for $2.50 and looking back, that is really being generous on my part. The quality of this game is real low and it has lots of problems. Plus the fact that it crashed my computer and forced a memory dump three times was extremely irritating.
Do your best to avoid this game at all costs. It is not worth the time or money, and you will have a lot more fun buying a game like Prince of Persia or God of War.
