Hacking and Slashing, that's what Gauntlet games are always about, but does it do well on the PS2?

User Rating: 6.7 | Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows PS2
I remember those days when I would waste my precious hours in the arcade playing Gauntlet. It was always fun, when I saw Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows my first reaction was I had to buy it. I bought it, played it, and beaten it, now here's my review. 3 out of 5
Story: You play as four heroes: a Elf, a Valkyrie, a Wizard, and some strong muscular dude. Long ago the King sought the four heroes' immortality so he and his six servants decided to crucify them on a tree. After that unfaithful act he started to have regrets for what he did. Before he was killed by his servants he released the four heroes (first sorrow) so they could undo the other Six Sorrows(the six servants). Yeah the story is kind of confusing, I tried to make good sense out of it and this is what I came up with. Gauntlet wasn't always good at delivering an excellent story, oh well. I guess the story was pretty decent.

Gameplay: This is the area in which almost all Gauntlet games do well in, the gameplay. Most of your time will be spent hacking and slashing hordes and hordes of enemies. Boring, well actually no, getting ambushed by fifty monsters at once is a HUGE thrill. Don't be surprised when you start saying to yourself "Dude there's too many of them, retreat". Those kind of things are most memorable in the game. During the course of the game you gain experience points, level up, and buy power ups, but as time goes on you will wish that there was more to buy, for the power up catalog is small. You can have up to four people playing with you, and you are also able to go online. Gauntlet:Seven Sorrows shows the true potential of hacking and slashing, I just wish there was more to it.

Graphics: The graphics were alright. Not top notch like God of War but it was alright. The level designs were simply amazing, well, some of them were. Some areas in the game were unique and vibrant in colors, while others were dull and dry. Gauntlet:Seven Sorrows does so-so in Graphics.

Sound: The music in the game was pretty pathetic. It was just plain and boring, most of the time I didn't even recognize there was even music playing. The sound effects were ok, not the best in the world though, could have done better. The sounds that come from your attacks all sound the same, no offense or anything, but from my experience a sword swipe and magic blast are NOT suppose to sound the same. It's just not right.

Overall:Gauntlet has very good gameplay but the poor storyline, poor sound effects, and the same old graphics holds Gauntlet:Seven Sorrows from it's true potential, Believe It Gaigo.
