A completely refined version of Gauntlet that is argueably the best one that has come out.
The campaign of this game is very addicting. The hack n slash action just keeps you coming back. There is blood and gore everywhere, for you people who are obssesed with mindless violence and blood. The campaign is brutal, with dozens of smart enemies coming at you all at once. That's right, I said smart. For once, the enemies in Gauntlet actually know how to act like real enemies. Every now and then you will notice them trying to flank you, or form up in seperate groups and formations. Some will even retreat if you kill most of the large group. The graphics in the campaign aren't TOO sharp, but they're not horrible either. Let's just say, they have been improved a little since the last Gauntlet game. The enviroments are pretty impressive, but the character and weapon models aren't and that's what kills the graphics in the game.
As for sound effects, they were highly impressive. The clanking of weaponry and the roars of enemies are all pretty well done. There is some music that plays every now and then that is ok, but not extremely great. The best part of the sound has to be the enemies grunts and roars. They are pretty loud, especially if you wound them in any way.
As for the actual CONTENT of the campaign, there are many cool new things that have been added. WAY more weapons than previous Gauntlet remakes and tons more characters too, including allies, and enemies. The inventory screen is a great feature, and it shows you every last item you are carrying, from battle axes, to armour, to potions. The inventory screen is very user friendly and helps you choose your items carefully and wisely.
The final thing I will go over is the xbox live play. It is AMAZING. This feature has never been added before and it is totally worth playing for a while. 4 players can play co-op online together, and that is extremely enjoyable as you can talk to your teammates via the xbox headset. There is a friends list, and other menus, and scoreboards. Xbox live on this game really adds to the experience, giving the game TONS of replay value.
Trust me, if you buy this game, you'll be playing it for a while. Brutal, chaotic, hack and slash action is addicting and then when you're done with that, you have the online co-op. The game is a fantastic deal and any gauntlet fan, or any hack and slash fan should either rent or buy very soon.
