Gears of War 3 was worth the hype. High-quality campaign and awesome multiplayer modes; make Gears 3 a buy.
Gears of War 3 is absolutely hands-down one of the best third-person shooters of 2011. With an excellent funny, dramatic campaign; awesome horde mode and a decent Beast mode; Gears of War 3 is a full-out buy. Spoiler alert: GoW 3 has the humans in an all-out struggle for survival and civilization. After destroying what was left of their only chance for civilization (Jacinto) they are now living on ships escaping from the treacherous lambent who have taken over the planet. The locust are present here, but the main enemies are now focused on the lambent. Obviously, because it's the sequel to Gears 2. I'm assuming you've all played GoW 2. Anyway, the campaign had emotional and dramatic experiences and left me in awe on how EPIC Games improved the campaign significantly from the previous two. I highly recommend it to everyone. One thing, you'll appreciate about Gears of War 2 is the selection of color wiped over the environments. No more brown! Also to note, the movement system in Gears of War 3 has been greatly improved and less frustrating to manuever; especially when playing on 'insane'!
The multiplayer component otherwise known as "versus mode" is mediocre. Unfortunately, it's a dying community and a less popular mode to play. With a shipped 10 maps included with the game; high variety, and less entertainment. Each map is completely symmetrical and is incredibly predictable onto where to find your opponents. I had more fun fighting against bots than I did with actual human players...who we're away from the controller.
The horde and beast modes in Gears of War 3 are the second and third reasons why you're buying GoW 3. First off, horde mode is back 'horde 2.0' I should say. And is INCREDIBLY more fun than the previous horde modes in Gears 2. For those of you, who don't know what horde mode is; it's you (the COG) fighting 50 waves of locust. You now earn money with kills which you can later spend to buy fortifications for your 'tactical' base. It's especially fun to play with four other friends. Beast mode...needs work. It's fun but it suffers from what's called a 'time limit'. This time around you play as the locust and kill COG heroes and stranded. It's entertaining playing different classes, but overall wasn't exciting as much as I thought it was going to be.
Overall, Gears of War 3 may have faults as every game has, but there are way more pros than cons with GoW 3 and highly recommended as a buy; no matter what the cost.
Gears of War 3 received a 9.5/10.
