Another game for the current generation of "Pseudo-Hardcore" gamers, who sees a chalenge where there is none.

Gears of War 3 is a good game, no doubt about it. But it is so, mainly because of the multiplayer. The campaign fails to deliver any kind of challenge. It's got good graphics, good cut-scenes, good dialogues, an ok story(not amazing like some would say) and an efficient impact engine and weapons behavior. Problem is, you can never feel like your being challenged. You feel like your watching a story develop, you want to keep going (specially if you played the first 2 games) mainly because you want to take it to the end and find how it all ends, but you never feel at risk of dying. Playing the campaign in Hardcore, (highest difficulty available when playing it for the first time) allows you to finish it in less than 10 hours, and throughout the whole game, the only time I really died, was in the final boss battle (Queen Mirrah). During the rest of the game, I was down several times, but I would not even bother crawling to a companion, they would speed up to me, trough explosions and rains of bullets, invulnerable, and get me up. In previous gears, if we didn't get a NPC up in time, he would die and game over. Now, they raise each other(I don't think I lifted a single one troughout the campaign) and raise you as fast as lightening. I never even felt like I needed to hide behind cover all that much like before, because of it. The game simply plays itself, while taking the player by the hand. I suspect that if I don't shoot my weapon, and just keep behind cover, the NPC's will do all the fighting.
To compensate this shortcoming, the Multiplayer really delivers. Leaving aside the usual GOW problems regarding matchmaking long times, and the usual dificulty to find a match in certain modes, the gameplay itself is brilliant. The new Horde mode, is a candy of co-op, and there are modes for every kind of player. The Multiplayer itself gives the game + 50 to 100 hours of gameplay, and it better. Considering how disappointing the campaign is.
