When you think of a console, you usually think of the games that really define the console and its era, for example the gamecube and super smash bros melee, or metroid prime. With the xbox 360 being in the market for well over a year, we have come across some rather captivating games but none so much that really put a bang in the Xbox 360's reputation belt, until Gears of War. It all changed on emergence day, Gears of War had crawled out from the ground and into the homes of thousands. Theres so much about this game that makes it the real big gun of the xbox 360. Gameplay wise, its the first xbox 360 game to succesfully pull off the cover system, in which a player uses his surroundings (walls,boulders etc) to his advantage and as cover. It takes a while to get used to, but it plays a huge role in holding grounds while trying to fight off those pesky locusts. Taking cover also helps in those near death situations, in which your health is almost wiped out and your in the crosshairs of a group of enemies, in GoW, simply hide behind a piece of giant debris and take 2 while your health regains, and as soon as your done, your ready to pop right back out and resume the fight inside of running all the way across the map looking for little health packets. Graphics wise, all I can say is hats off to you Epic, GoW proved how powerful the unreal 3 engine is and im sure we'll be seeing more games powered by this engine. GoW basically, looks stunning, from water flowing off the wall to being on 700 mph trains. You would expect the framerate to take a hit, but it stays constant throughout the game. Making GoW not only a handsome game, but a fun to play one. If your somebody who wants your 60$ you paid for this game to go a long way, GoW is for you, the multiplayer can keep you hooked for months (possibly even years) with 4 on 4 battles in multiple locations in 4 different game types. That being said, if you dont have xbox live, you will find yourself quite dissapointed as the campaign mode is very short and will only last you a solid 8-9 hours first time through. Overall Gears of War has the elements that make a hall of famer for the xbox 360 and is a must buy for those who love shooter games, even FPS gamers find there selves at home with this third person shooter that sets the bar pretty high for other shooters to come.
