Over all, a good game. 9, not a 10.

User Rating: 8.5 | Gears of War X360
Gears of War, if somehow you didn't know, is a third person action game by the makers of the Unreal franchise. The story revolves around a group of four super soldiers and their mission to retreive the "harmonic dissipator" or what ever in gods name they call it. A device that will end the war against the underground alien "locust" hored. While focus on the story itself is perdictably minimal, you wont mind as your spending most of the game blasting baddies inbetween running for cover. In fact, about half the game is spent running for cover but this doesn't reduce the fun factor at all largely due to the intuitive cover controls and "rodey run" camera which lends alot of exitment to the act. While the shooting parts are done well too, and all the weapons have an appropriate boom when using them there are only eight of them in the game. Granted, this doesn't bring down the gameplay as much as you might expect.
The games mainstay, multiplayer is a decent diversion, but lack of modes and the near neccesity of downloading the new maps (at a cost of $10) make it no more than a temporary diversion. Don't expect to be able to get hardcore about it like people have with the halo games.
By now you've surely seen screen shots for this game, and suffice it to say that the graphics are just as good if not better in motion. The game also runs at a steady 60fps. While the graphics are really quite exeptional, the voice acting passable (exept for your doofus sounding sidekick Dom) and the gameplay certainly doesn't skip on the exitment, it must be said that for a next gen game it really doesn't deliver anything that hasn't been seen before. For microsofts first big buget game you'd expect to see why you bought an xbox 360 Insted you get a typical, albeit fun and gorgious action game. The only other complaint i really have is that in line with the current trend in games, it's too short. it seems like it's missing about two or three missions wich really could have fleshed out the story more. These complaints don't bring the game down enough to recommend you stay away from it, but a rental should satisfy any need you have for this game.
