Although there is virtually very little story to speak of in the game's campaign, its cinematic qualities and interesting characters keep you pulled into the action until its climactic and inevitable end. This game may feature the most incredible graphics and effects ever witnessed in a video game, but that doesn't mean that the gameplay suffers. Infact, they go hand in hand. The hype is something that could be good or bad for this game, depending on your taste. If you're expecting the next Halo in terms of gameplay then you can rejoice for Gears of War delivers a truly gripping 3rd person action experience. There are quite a few fun levels that you'll want to play again and again. The atmosphere in the game matches each of its unique levels. The sound really sets it apart when you are under enemy fire. If you're expecting a deep story with subplots you might want to wait for some of the other games in 2007. The dialogue often comes across as cheesy and cliche. But its mostly because when you're playing this game, you forget that it is a video game because it is so cinematic, that you expect cinematic quality in the writing. Levels with more of a purpose would've been enjoyable, but the gameplay more than makes up for it the shoddy missions. The multiplayer in the game will keep you entertained long after co-op and singleplayer are finished. One complaint however is that is impossible to tell who is who on your team when you each have the same exact skin. A gamertag over each character would've been helpful. It's not easy to work together when you're each the same ugly locust, shouting at each other to get help or to be revived. Overall, there is definately alot in this game that will attract gamers. It is safe to call Gears of War a killer app. Anyone owning the console should check out this game. The graphics and gameplay set it apart, but it might not stand the test of time when up against games with gameplay, graphics and an epic storyline.
