Gears of War is probably the best start of all the console game starters. It gives everybody the action, graphics, gameplay and just sheer enjoyment then any game has. Gears of War mixes Halo with Kill.Switch and it does it in a manner that you will love and come to expect out of all action games from now on. Gears of War's graphics are JUST short of perfect. The characters and enemies are excellent when it comes to graphics but the surroundings go back to the first generation XBox. Now does this turn you away...not in the least. There is enough graphical fire-power to have you hooked and keep going and is a perfect game to showcase the new 360's graphical prowess. Not only did they make the characters look amazing they also thought of the little things, like the heat shimmer off of the barrel of your weapon that you'll see when reloading. That shows you right there that Epic Games really took this game to heart and wanted to feel proud of it. Gameplay in GOW is fairly simple and it almost copies Halo's gameplay which is good because nothing you need to do will interfere with your fingers cooperation. Though i think this is the first action game that utilizes the "A" button as much as it does. Now to tell a little about the game itself. The difficulty as told about in the video review is two options. Option "A" you're a big baby and shouldn't own the game or Option "B" you're somewhere between homicidal and heroic. The training in the beginning of the game is very minimal and may throw you for a loop for a little bit before you fully understand how to play the game. This is not a game of aim, shoot and strafe. This is where playing Kill.Switch will come in handy. The enemy A.I. in this game is very adept when it comes to aiming at you and will not hesitate in pulling the trigger. They know where you are and will fire at you so you better take cover. In essence you spend about 80% of the game hopping from cover to cover and firing back at the enemy. Now don't think that hiding behind cover will help you that much because if you stay there too long the enemy will come after you and try to cut your head off. So get behind cover but make sure you do your job while there. The health system in this game is very straight forward if you don't take cover and keep getting hit you will die quickly and you will notice you're dieing by the "Gears of War" logo in the middle of your screen that starts to appear slowly. Though to keep from dieing is simple, if you start to see that symbol appear duck behind cover for a bit and when it dissappears you're good to go. Now as before i mentioned the enemy A.I. is very adept at killing, though on the downside the Allie A.I. isn't all that adept. They're more along the lines of just learning how to use their weapons therefore are not much help. In all, Gears of War is going to be and will most likely hold the title of best action game period for a very long time and will give Halo 3 a run for its money. The game is rough, intense and bloody and god help you when you enter because when you start there ain't not turning back.
Look if your a gamer that loves your action fast paced and intense then you have to get GEARS now. If you do not have an X360 yet, this is your excuse. I have been a gamer for the better part of three decades now and l... Read Full Review
