Gears of War delivers on all fronts, from technical achievements to gameplay.

User Rating: 9.7 | Gears of War X360
One of the most hyped games since Halo 2 is Gears of War. Seemingly endless amounts of hype revolved around this game before its release. Did it deliver? Totally.
First off, let me say this, Gears is the best looking game released as of right now. It's easy to see why so many developers are using Unreal Engine 3 on their own games. At one point in the game it's raining at night in a forest. The water effects are simply spectacular; water realistically runs down buildings and trees, extensive use of shaders on everything to give the wet shiny look. Simply put this game is unmatched in the visual department.
What's a game with pretty graphics and terrible gameplay though? Well, the third person, stop and pop gameplay is executed with excellence. This game introduces a new spin on traditionally games where the player can "run and gun". In Gears, the player must utilize cover almost always. While this may sound repetitive, it really never gets old. There's nothing like running for cover while bullets are wizzing by your head.
Speaking of the story, well, there's really not much to it. The game's focus is its amazing gameplay and this really doesn't detract from the experience. The voice acting itself is great, but nearly all of the dialogue is cheesy "lets do this" sort of stuff. Overall, the game leaves the player wanting more (with only 8-12 hours of gameplay), but this wouldn't be the case if it weren't so amazing. Graphics - Unsurpassed visuals bring any competition to its knees.
Gameplay - New, realistic spin on shooting is extremely satisfying.
Sound - All great, hearing the gurgle of flesh and blood is brutally appealing.
Story - Non existant, but doesn't detract from experience.
Multiplayer - Havn't had the chance to play it yet.
Overall - Amazing game that shouldn't be missed. Deliver's a top notch gameplay experience unparalled.
