GOW is a gas, but it also is far from perfect. I am not a big fan of 3rd person shooters, but how would you do duck and cover without it. Duck and cover is the differentiator in play, the weapons, the enemies all seem familiar, but they are dressed real nice. The graphics are absolutely stunning, camera effects, and most of the sound design. By most the kill/splat sound is cheap and cartoony, as is the graphic that goes with it. The foes look cool as hell, but somehow with names like Berserker, Boomer, haven't we been here before with cute names that define their simplified behavior. Though I have to say slinking/diving past a berserker that was trying to sniff you out is very cool. The surround sound design is awesome, when you can use it it will key you to trouble that is coming. The AI is good, but the voice over comments from characters that key you "reloading" etc., seem to dumbe it down just a bit.
The game has a few scenes that can be extremely tough to fight your way out, but for the most part a pretty easy fight on casual. The final fight with Raam is another story, not technically a very interesting boss battle, but just plain tough and a bit our of scale with the rest of the levels. Now on Hardcore, the game really shows it's teeth and is a better more evenly matched fight. It also makes for good replay.
But after those digs, I have not had tons of time to commit to GOW, but I do absolutely love playing it, and as a feast for the eyes it is a must have and shows incredible promise for the 360 going forward.
