Back when this game was announced in the June 2005 Issue of Game Informer I have been anticipating this game when I finally got an Xbox 360. It had unbelievable graphics, a great developer, and ambitious plans. Gears of War lives up to the description in Game Informer and all the hype it generated since then. It has the best graphics on the system and rivals any PS3 game that we have seen so far. The tactical gameplay is much better then anything we’ve seen in G.R.A.W. or any other tactical shooter I’ve ever played. One thing that is bad about the strategy part of it is that the squad commands are completely useless. If the AI wasn’t so good this would probably be a problem but most of the time you won’t even miss a real squad command system. Another thing this title is missing is a real story. There seems to be a story somewhere in Gears of War, but good luck trying to figure out what it is. The voice overs and music are all pretty average but the battle sounds are perfect and very immersive. It also has an excellent online co-op and a solid versus mode with up to 4 vs. 4 that really ups the replay value. This number may seem small for a next-gen game but it feels just right once you’re actually playing it. I’m also pretty sure the chainsaw bayonet is the greatest thing ever pixilated in a video game and worth buying the game alone. All this gets mashed together to make a near perfect game that you will play as long or maybe even longer then god forbid the Halo series. Basically if you like video games buy this game for your Xbox 360. If you don’t have an Xbox 360 go buy one for this game, you won’t be disappointed.
