Gears of War is a superb game that's close to reaching action game perfection. Get ready for war.

Gears of War has been under development for several years now. We've seen so many pictures of this macho action shooter we began to fear that it would disappoint our sky high expectation. But the game is better, prettier and more exciting than I could ever imagined. GoW looks beyond anything I've ever seen. The incredibly detailed videos that punch in between the action are perfect. They are among the coolest and most breathtaking cut-scenes I've ever seen in a game. And when you get control of your soldier you're simply amazed by how amazing it all looks. Blood spills on the screen, smoke and lighting from massive machine guns, and just look around! The game's being played out in these incredible environments that are way to good to be in real life! Look at the roof in the House of the Sovereigns, it's like being in Notre Dame! The game is so good looking you're likely to spend hours just wandering around amazed by its beauty!

Not only does the game look good, it sounds amazing as well. The music is very good and has got this doomsday mood to it, which fits perfectly. But the voice overs and sound effects are even better than the music. The characters come to life thanks to some great acting. They all have a past and they all have a personality. They'll ever so often comment on the action, and this is very satisfying. Together with some very realistic sound effects this is the ears answer to the mouths chocolate (for me at least!).

Gears of War is very easy to play but still hard to master. You'll constantly seek cover and fire in bursts at hiding and flanking enemies. In videos this looked kinda boring and tedious, but it's not at all. The ever changing environments and locations help bring variation, and together with the insane action this game is incredibly entertaining. I'll even go as far as saying that this is the most fun I've had in years. The story is easy to follow cause you get it from a soldiers view. You don't know the details, but you know what to do, and that's all you need to know. You control Marcus Fenix, a soldier that's in prison only to be released to reinforce the army in the war. It's been 14 years since the aliens invaded us by coming up from underground. We blew up most of our cities denying the aliens to take over, but they didn't die, and neither did we. Up from the ashes of the cities comes the marines, and down from underneath comes the aliens...deny doomsday...kill the aliens. You can play the whole campaign in co-op as well, with either a friend in split-screen or a Chinese kid online. The multiplayer is also great featuring several game modes and maps. The campaign is very short, and that's the only bad thing about this game. It's like 6 hours long, and that's a shame. But there are three difficulties, co-op and online, so you'll be spending a lot of time with this game, don't worry! +
Gorgeous graphics and design. The voice over and sound effects are also great. Characters are very alive thanks to the great voices and animations. The game plays amazing in co-op. The online multiplayer is also awesome. -
The campaign is incredibly short. (PS: I give the sound 9/10 just to get the score right!!!)
