So good looking, you'll want to wipe the blood off your screen.
In the darkness of my living room, the only sound I hear is the loud hum of my overheated Xbox 360, and the deafening echo of a bloodstained chainsaw. Yes ladies and gentlemen, it is Gears of War, a game that finally captures the true power of Microsoft’s gaming machine. Words cannot describe the intensity and sheer brilliance of this epic game. It is gory, violent, vicious and brutal, but oh is it entertaining.
After being rescued by your fellow soldier and friend Dom, you, Marcus Fenix, are dumped out on the cracked soil of a war-torn planet. Once a hated traitor, it’s now your turn to reinvigorate the spirit and courage in the Gears, slaughtering anything that stands in your path. Clenching your controller tightly in your sweaty palms, you will not want to put this game down as you slice and dice your way to the finish. And while the story is not that long or profound, the enormous amount of excitement and intensity packed inside this game will keep the blood rushing for quite some time.
The vivid aspects of this battle-ridden continent are so richly captured in detail, they will make your jaw drop over and over again. As bullets fly and heads roll, you will be caught gazing at the dismay and ruin that lingers in the aura of combat. Your eyes will widen and your mouth will drool as you gawk and admire at the dramatic brilliance that encircles your atmosphere. The passionate horror captured inside is only facilitated by a wonderful and dominate soundtrack and vibrant sound effects. Guns will echo in radiance, sweltering the faces of your foes, and you won’t mind befalling to deafness as you turn up your TV to maximum capacity. Taken as a whole, the visual and audio characteristics of Gears of War are outstanding.
Xbox-Live stands out as a major accomplishment in it’s own right. Even though the matches are small four vs. four, you will tough out the pain of sleep deprivation and spend long nights playing many rounds online. While it might get repetitive after a while, the few maps given are enough to enliven the inner Gear within you for a long time to come. Overall, Gears of War is a forceful and powerful game that will make you think twice about games you’ve played in the past. Deep, extreme graphics and rich, persuasive sound create a rare but wonderful amusement. It is truly what the Xbox needed to claim back those hardcore gamers that had dwindled away in the past. In the end, all the elements come together to create a distinctive and unique game you will not want to put down. And it deserves every bit of attention it got...
