A great game that's a bit overrated in my opinion, but still a great game that's definately worth checking out.
GoW has some great gameplay, even though the multiplayer is where it mostly shines. The single player is mostly about a war that humans have with an Alien Race called the Locusts, which attack from their catacombs underground onto the surface in holes called the Emergence Holes (Deep Breath). It will take you from creepy looking "ghost towns" to miles underground to the Locusts' lairs. The one thing that the single player Campaign is missing is the storyline. The story to me pretty much seems like Halo, with different names and different characters. For example, the Locusts are the covenant, and the planet of Sera is Halo. Marcus Fenix? Master Chief. They've also announced that this is going to be a trilogy, meaning that there will also be a GoW 2 and 3. If you didn't know, Halo's a trilogy too. So the single player was a bit dissapointing, but it was still exciting, just not any new concepts except the fast reload feature. The multiplayer is where the game really shines. It's just about the greatest multiplayer experience that you could get on a console. It's fun and tactical at the same time. You will be talking with your team mates discussing tactics and such (usually). The number of players per game is 8 players. It may seem small, but the maps are designed perfectly for that amount, and it would be hard to play this online and be tactical if there are more players. If there is anything to complain about in the multiplayer, then it's how some weapons are overpowered and underpowered, and some lag problems. For example, if you want to kill an enemy with a lancer (machine gun with a chainsaw bayonette on the bottom), then you have to shoot him about 120 time repeatedly, before his health recharges. Where if you go close range and use a shotgun, then you could kill him in less than ten shots (usually). Or even worse, how you could just go up to a character and chainsaw him or stick a frag grenade on him and kill him instantly, which seems unfair in a way. But that doesn't very much affect the game experience.
Graphics(10/10)
Let me start by saying that I was absolutely dumbstruck when I first played this game. When the game started for the first time, and when I had to go to the training, I literally thought that it was a cutscene. And I'm dead serious. The game's graphics are AMAZING, from how the water interacts with the player to the character and map design. All of this is thanks to the amazing Unreal 3 engine that runs the game. It is also very artistic too. Sound (10/10)
The sound is real. I mean, real like real in our world. Well, sort of, except you're in Sera. The best aspect I think in the sound is the sound that your weapon makes when it shoots. It's very satisfying. It's amazing, and well, that about covers it, since I really can't tell the difference between the sound in the game and in the game to the sound in the world outside of the game. Value (9/10)
This is a great game with a lot of bang for the buck in it. The single player is great, but almost perfect, and the amazing multiplayer should keep you going for weeks, if not months. This is definately a must buy.
Overall
Overall, this game is a must buy for any xbox 360 owner, and if you don't own one, then this is your excuse to plop down that money and get yourself one. This is definately the next Halo for the 360. Thank you for taking your time to read this review.
