Gears of War - a review, based on its offline co-op feature. Read on...
Story
For such an action-based game, the story is not lacking. It revolves around Marcus Fenix, who along with Delta Squad (all part of the Coalition of the Ordered Government) undertakes a journey to stop a new thread for the mankind β the Locust Horde. Locust are denizens of the underground realm on Sera β the planet, where our story takes place. Offline coop gives you the opportunity to engage in the story in a nice fashion, without sacrificing any exposure to it. 8/10
Graphics
Epic Games did an incredible job with the graphical presentation. Gears of War looks fantastic, despite the fact I played it for a first time years after its initial release. 9/10
Sound/Voice Acting
The cars of voice actors is outstanding, which makes Gears of War's soundtrack and design a "job well done". Gamers should find it entertaining and authentic. 10/10
Gameplay
Playing in offline co-op is pure fun. Especially, if your TV is pretty big, so the reduced, split screens do not affect visibility it at all. The game features great controls, responsive moves and good gun-play. We have the exposure to a great set of weapons, the best of which is the Lancer β a fully automatic rifle with a chainsaw, mounted on the front. During the majority of the game, player would find themselves with a group of comrades, so cooperation in taking down enemies is of the essence. 10/10
Overall
Gears of War is an amazing game and series, whether you play the campaign by yourself or with a friend in the same room, it is a must have for any XBOX 360 owner. Personally, the greatest feature of the game is the offline coop, nicely intertwined storyline and engaging conversations of the main characters. Not many games are coming out with features like these anymore. 9/10
