Like most over hyped games today Gears of War is indeed for the most part, hype. Dont get me wrong its still a pretty solid 3rd person shooter but to me its just not really fun..at all. Too few weapons, enemies & teammates arent THAT smart, not very realistic ( i know its a sci-fi shooter), just a pretty normal action game. The graphics are great and all & the sound is nice. The controls are alright, I do wish you could change over the shoulder views from left to right though like in Ghost Recon, it bugs the hell out of me. And the reloading is more of a hassle than fun. And the chainsaw is retarded, if you get shot with it on you have to redo it...by then your already close to the enemy & they can crush your head in. And the squad commands are pretty useless, they offer no help for the most part & I just let them fend for themselves after awhile. And having all those little holes with the locusts popping up allover the place gets old. "Oh finally we just cleared out 3 emergence holes...'walk 5 steps' OHHH theres another 5 holes to clear!" not fun at all, this is what 90% of the game consists of. I expected this game to be a much more intense, loud, action packed SMART action game but like I said in the beginning, its just a typical over-hyped action game with good graphics. My advice would be to rent it first to see if its your type of game..I personally prefer a more realistic smart game like ghost recon advanced warfighter. I hope this review helps shed some light.
