It doesn't get old!

Little did I know I'd have the chance to chainsaw my friend, then have him shatter my head, then watch him explode in a plume of flesh in blood...

Little did I know I'd spend countless hours slicing and smothering locust hoards...

Little did I know how great Gears of War would be!

Last year I followed the thoughtful recommendation of an EB sales clerk... "Gears of War," she/he/whatever I forget said to me. I listened, and dropped the five dollars to pre order.

It wasn't until a week before the release did I bother to pay any attention to the game... But the time came, I picked up my disk and plopped it in my console. From thence on I forgot about the fun I had with Halo, I also lost track of my social life for a few days... I was lost in Gears of War!

The game, from an architectural stand point, is sound. Fighting is visceral, cover is integrated, enemies are swift, and... it's just a lot of friggin' fun! The single player campaign, though over in an average time, is infinitely replayable. I spent hours fighting through "Hardcore" difficulty, then hours more fighting "Insane". Afterwards, I spent more time playing with my buddies that had to wait for the game; those fools who didn't pre order!

This was before I even bothered with the multiplayer, which, though simple, is undeniably addicting. So many rounds, so many matches, so many chainsaws...

This review is a little late... If you haven't found for yourself the excellence in Gears of War, RUN! Run to your nearest retailer and drop the 60 dollars, the best waste of money for a video game this millennium (2001 - 2007).
