Sure, it has the beautiful Unreal Engine 3 included in it, but this game gets way too much credit...

User Rating: 8.8 | Gears of War X360
Gears of War starts out when Marcus Fenix is in prison, and Dom comes to rescue you. You have two paths: Either go through the training, or go straight into fighting. It's your choice. After you choose, you'll quickly learn Gears of War's tactical gameplay, and it may look pretty simple to you at first, but don't be fooled by the quick learning curve. This game is all about taking cover and intense combat with the Locust horde, and if you expose yourself in the open, guess what happens? You'll die very quickly. The Locusts are very tough enemies no doubt, but the good thing about Gears is that you have many different ways to kill them. This includes none other than simply shooting them with the Lancer, chainsawing them using your chainsaw bayonet (that's included with the Lancer), blow them up into pieces with the Torque Bow, smacking them, and so forth.

As you can see, within the first two months of Gears of War's release, this game sold a jaw-dropping 3 million copies. But does this game get way with too much credit and hype? The answer is yes. Gears of War is not without flaws, as it's campaign will end before you know it (lasting between 6-15 hours depending on which diffuculty you set it on), and if I forgot to mention, the online gets a bit too much credit as well. The online still contains the gruesome action you see in the campaign, but it's problem is that it can get boring pretty fast, due to 2 words: Repetitive gameplay. The online part of Gears doesn't really give any new aspects to the gameplay, it's just plain 4-on-4 matches where you have to kill opponents on the other team. Another disadvantage to the online is that you can't control the other players actions (obviously), and they can and will frequently use shotguns and their chainsaw bayonets. But the good part about it is that you'll still have all the weapons you've came to love in this game, including the Torque Bow, the Shotgun (or the Boomshot as it's so-called), the Longshot, and the rest of the weapons. There is a guarantee that you'll have an absolute blast the first time you play through the Gears of War campaign, and you may as well play it all day long. The bad news follows after that though, as after you beat this game on all three difficulties (casual, hardcore, insane), you'll begin to develop boredom with this game, which isn't good. The good news about this game is that most of it's good traits will overshadow it's bad traits, even though the evil boredom won't escape you if you continue to play this game for a long period of time. Packed with some of the best graphics on the Xbox 360, intense combat/gameplay, and an excellent soundtrack to go with the gameplay, is this game the true total package? The answer is yes, but unfortunately it'll begin to drop it's meter on you after you fight your way through the campaign a few times and play enough of the online. But this game is still worth playing, and possibly worth a buy if you love intense combat games with beautiful graphics. Go ahead and give Gears of War a try, the overrated part of this game won't haunt you until much later. I guarantee it.
