Amid all the hype and the pressure, and Gears of War delivered on all fronts. Was it perfect? Of couse not. But at the end of the day, Epic's franchise-inaugurating masterpiece is by far the most visually stunning game on any console system. It's also endlessly replayable (thanks to co-op play and Achievement-based incentives for tackling it on harder difficulty levels), and the multiplayer is, to describe it as Lead Designer Cliffy B probaly would, "F****** nuts." There's simply no better feeling than carving you initials into some schmo's chest online... except for when you curb-stomp him, grenade-tag him, Torque Bow him, snipe his head clean off and watch it explode like a ripe, juicy cantaloupe, or... well, you get the point. I'm still playing Gears every single night. Yeah, so get this game....NOW.
