Gears of War is a rare breed of game. It’s one in the thousands of games developed that grabs you by the back of your head, grips down with vice-like strength, and then careens your face into the television set. This is a balls-to-the-walls tribute to all things that make you stand up and exclaim in exuberance “Oh my God! That was so bad ass!” This is a game that screams virtual virility; obnoxiously proportioned character models, weaponry (though the selection is limited) that makes you feel like The Predator for using, and a graphical style that is so visually explosive you’ll feel privileged for having eye balls. This is a game that makes you happy to be a gamer. This is a game that makes you happy to be alive.
If only the campaign were a teensy bit longer.
