If you haven't played "Gears Of War" you more then likely don't own a Xbox 360, and if do you own a Xbox 360 and still haven't played "Gears Of War" you really don't know what you're missing! "Gears Of War" really paved the way for all next generation shooters. But there are still quite a few things that set this game away from the others, especially its innovative controls and duck and cover system.

Your character's Marcus Fenix, you're a coalition soldier and have been fighting against the Locust Horde since emergence day. Later in the war your father is held up in a fierce battle against the Locust, you attempt to go rescue him even though it's against the coalition's orders. When Marcus arrives onto the scene his father is already dead and the Locust are long gone, you're then later sentenced to 40 years for disobeying the militaries direct orders. That's where the game starts you off, locked up in a cell in which you shortly break out of thanks to your friend and fellow soldier Dom.

The controls are like any other 3rd person shooter for the most part. Except you have the ability to take cover behind almost anything. Not only that but just by pressing the A button your allowed to quickly switch from one cover to the next or jump over debris. You can even take down waves of Locust without even showing your face by blind firing from cover, it's all truly amazing!

"Gears Of Wars" battles seem epic and feel very real-like all because your allowed to take cover, barrel roll away from danger, and even run with your head tucked down dodging stray bullets. The battles are so close to the real thing you'll expect debris to come flying out from your T.V screen when a grenade goes off in front of Marcus. Everything in "Gears Of War" really is more realistic then any other shooters, where your stuck crouching and MAYBE allowed to bunny hop, and seriously, does anyone in a REAL battle ACTUALLY start bunny-hopping? I didn't think so..

Yeah, Marcus' abilities in "Gears Of War" are pretty damn sweet and the games physics are about as real as it gets, but what is also pretty realistic is the games AI. The AI uses cover and blind fires also, and they probably do it a lot better then you at first. They also tend to try an surround and flank you just like real enemy soldiers would on the battlefield.

The AI's smart, original, and plentiful. There are many different kinds/skins of Locusts, so you wont ever get bored blowing the limbs off the same bad guy. They are also placed perfectly through out the game, so you wont ever go too long without shooting a Locust, and for the most part you shouldn't feel overwhelmed with their presence either.

"Gears Of War" also offers many different guns, each of them unique in their own way. You'll be able to use a rocket launcher, sniper rifle, even a high-powered laser beam, and tons more! None of these guns seem overpowered nor do any of them feel under powered.

The stories immersive and guaranteed to draw almost any gamer in. Some parts of the story may be a little confusing, but it doesn't really seem to matter as long as your allowed to split a Locust in half with Marcus' chainsaw bayonet! "Gears Of War" is also a little on the short side, but you will be very satisfied with the game once you get to its ending.

Even though "Gears Of War" was practically a release title its graphics and game play are still better then most 360 titles being released today. The sound effects are just as impressive as the graphics, I still look over my shoulder expecting to get blown into pieces whenever I hear "BOOOOOOOOOMER" screamed on the battle field. Also, the three online multiplayer modes (Warzone, Assassination, and Execution) are extremely fun and challenging, and all the maps are stunningly and beautifully designed.

"Gears Of War" should be on ANY gamers shelf! The story and game play are extremely amazing, realistic, and unique. Because the game's multiplayer kicks so much ass "Gears Of War" has a very big replay value. Hardcore gamers will always have a special place in their heart when it comes to "Gears Of War"!
