Not for everyone, but fun in its own unique, quirky way.

User Rating: 8.2 | Generation of Chaos PSP
Generation of Chaos isn't a game that will appeal to everyone. It's a bit too complex and requires a lot of micromanagement, an issue exacerbated by a skimpy, generally unhelpful manual. It takes a lot of trial and error, and can be unforgiving at times. You're more of a spectator than an actor during the battles, and trying to figure out how well you'll fare can be difficult, if not impossible.

Even with all those issues, however, there is a lot of fun to be had with this game that many reviewers seem to have overlooked. It is difficult to get into, and the learning curve is steep, but once you start getting the hang of it, Generation of Chaos is a lot of fun and rather addictive. Building your armies is a pretty open-ended affair, allowing you to specialize in many different types of warfare. Once you start defeating enemy armies, you can decide which of your enemies you want to try to recruit to your side... defeating a particularly difficult enemy is doubly rewarding when you consider that he'll soon be fighting for your side. There is also a certain art to using different troop formations, objectives, and skills to win battles that look almost hopeless, and doing so can be very rewarding. You can also get very attached to the characters, who are interesting and generally well voice-acted.

It's difficult to predict exactly who will like this game, but if you're patient, attentive to detail, and enjoy a good challenge, you might have a lot of fun with Generation of Chaos.
