The super addictive game is back on XBLA

User Rating: 9 | Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 X360
Geometry wars is a game made for those of us that really wanna go back to the days of high scores. Geometry was succeeds in this as it takes us back...again, but without losing the technical prowess that we saw from the last one.

Geometry wars 2 not only brings us more crazy shooting action, but it adds new gameplay elements in a very entertaining way. There are a total of 6 gametypes and each can be played up to 4 players on a local xbox console. There is no online to be had as lag would more than likely effect your scores greatly, but the leaderboards are returning and it seems everyone is trying to get on the boards.

New targets are brought into the mix as well as some past ones (and yes im talking about the freaking snakes) each has their own sound and movement so no two enemies feel generic or just added on for content. There is also the addition of gates which you can rebound your fire to score extra points and can also go through to destroy nearby enemies. The gats have deadly ends so going through the center is the only way to make them explode.

Each of the games six modes brings a unique experience to the table. Deadline gives you unlimited lives, and a time limit as you race to get the highest score. King only allows you to shoot when your in one of 3 existing circles and you have to dart from circle to circle to escape the hordes of enemies. In pacifism the player only has one life and can not shoot. Enemies are destroyed by going through the gates. Evolved is basically the same mode as geometry wars 1 you get bombs and lifes and try to live while scoring as much as possible. Waves gives you 1 life as you dodge fast waves of enemies. Sequence gives you lives as you encounter numerous enemy combinations. Along with all this new gameplay is the addition of geoms. Geoms change the multiplier system by making you collect them to add multiplier to your score. The more geoms you get the higher each score will be.

The game is one of the best looking on XBL. The same artwork style from the last series is here and is revamped to breathe new life. Each mode, action, and enemy has its own distant sound. It would really be difficult to find a game that sounded better than this. Geometry wars also gives you achievement progress in gameplay as you attempt them. The achievements aren't crazy difficult so you won't feel cheated on points

Overall if you want a shooter, or a high quality game for that matter. Go check Geometry Wars 2, you won't regret it.
