Everything You Love About Classic Shooters!
What you'll notice right away with Geometry Wars 2 is that there are five new modes (six counting the classic Evolved mode that we're use to) that you'll unlock overtime, there's even an achievement for doing so! the modes consist of:
Deadline: You have unlimited lives but you have three minutes to score as many points as you can.
King: You have only one life and no bombs. The only way to shoot is to stand inside of the circles that pop up at random. But don't get comfortable because the circles don't stay there forever.
Evolved: If you've played the first Geometry Wars then you'll know what to expect. You have three lives and three bombs that can increase depending on how much your score is. Your goal is to....well shoot enemies and don't get killed of course!
Pacifism: You have no bombs, one life, and no way of shooting your enemies. So what do you do? you get your enemies to follow you (which you'll have no problem doing so) and you cross the gates that pop up, be careful not to touch the edges of the gates or it's game over.
Waves: You have to shoot enemies that come from the sides of the grid. However, you only have one life so be careful.
Sequence: You have twenty levels to complete within thirty seconds each. Be careful not to die or let your time expire. Do you have the man power to get the Smile achievement?
All six modes are not just thrown-in like some games can be, each mode is very well thought out and alot of fun to play.
If you liked the well appreciated Pacifism achievement, then you'll be happy to know that alot of the achievements are just as well thought out. Overall you'll have alot of fun trying to earn them.
Another thing I'm happy to say is that the music is just as good and upbeaty as the first one is. It's all electronica but there are a couple of remixes here and there from the first game to give it more interesting.
You'll also be happy to know that there are four player simultaneous coop that we have all yearned for from the first game. Unfortunately the coop isn't online like you would expect but it's still fun nonentheless.
Ten dollars is alot of money for an Xbox Live Arcade game, after all it's predecessor was half that much. If you own a 360 and are looking for a good shooter, look no further than Geometry Wars 2: Retro Evolved.
