The best of the Live Arcade game available at launch.

User Rating: 8.2 | Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved X360
Games that are simple to learn but increasingly difficult to master seem to few and far between these days. Arcade games only come in 'Retro' packs these days and even when bundled, most games aren't as addictive as Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved.
Controls are simple enough; left joystick flies your little spaceship, right joystick directs your fire in any direction. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, at first it takes a little getting used to. Once you get the hang of shooting and moving you still won't have the game mastered, though. It starts off slow and builds to a frantic pace of having the screen illuminated by explosions, enemies, your fire, the 'floor' vibrating...all coming together in a graphical cacophony at times.
When the action gets heavy you have a limited supply of bombs that take out all the enemies on screen at that time. While a great lifesaver, it doesn't always end up foolproof. There have been several times where I think I'm in the clear only to fly right into an enemy that was materializing after I detonated my bomb.
The Xbox Achievement system is a great touch but the goals for the game seem astronomically high. So far I've only unlocked 2, and I doubt if I will ever get more than 4 out of the 20. Despite the difficulty, I still find myself striving to attain them, which is a good thing.
Overall I think I've played this game almost as much as some of the retail launch games. For $5 you cannot beat the amount of fun that this game supplies you with.

As of this writing my high score is only 195k.
