I picked up Giga Wing 2 to help flesh out a lopsided Dreamcast library a few years ago. As a shooter, Giga Wing 2 is up there with both great graphics and good sound. The graphics are good with only occasional slowdown when the choas REALLY gets going, usually when one does a Reflect Barrier or Laser. Bright, crisp colors and anime inspired characters make for a colorful package. The sound is decent with a mixture of orchestral tunes and action music. Sound effects are standard fare with nothing to write home about, but let's move on to the actual gameplay. Gameplay is pretty good with the use of the reflect barrier/laser and a decent selection of fighter craft. The unlockable super aircraft also gives it some replay value, which brings up it's big flaw. This is a short game, with only 5 real levels and some tough boss fights. You can beat the game in about 10 minutes with the infinate continues. After awhile things can get repetative, so make sure you have a friend that you can have fun with. Getting the extra aircraft is cool, but after that the gameplay wore off. Overall, Giga Wing 2 is not the end all be all of shooters, but it can stand on its own and I would recommend it for beginners who do not want to destroy their controllers.
