Very fun game to play but is it worth 50 bucks? read my review and you decide.
Now for the boss fights, this deserves a whole section on its own because they're so much fun (sadly there aren't that many bosses in the game though). The bosses are very fun to play. When you get the bosses hurt enough, a picture of the O button shows up on the screen telling you when to press it and it turns into a little mini game where you have to press the button or rotate the analog stick that shows up on the screen. If you miss a button, youll get thrown off. Theres are also little finishing moves for each boss but i won't get into that and spoil it for you all =].
Controls - The controls are very easy to get used to and are setup perfectly. Moves are easy to pull off and it shouldnt take any gamer that long to get used to these controls. It took me like a half and hour to get fully used to all the moves, combos and weapons. Once you figure out the controls and memorize the combos and moves, you really have a blast playing through this game. Again, the combos you can pull off and the moves Kratos can do really do look cool. One thing that would have been nice is the ability to move the camera angles or a free look option. This would have helped A LOT for some of the puzzles in the game.
Graphics/Sound - The graphics are pretty amazing considering its coming from the aging ps2. For the most part, the game ran very smoothly. You do notice the framerate drop occasionally but it wasn't bad at all and it happened very rarely throughout the game. One thing i did notice was there were some problems with the vsync. You notice some line tears in the screen once in a while that kind of bugged me throughout the game. Other than that, the graphics are one of the best ive seen on the ps2.
The sound is probably the strongest part of God of War. The soundtrack fits the game perfectly and it really does sound 'hollywood movie like' with its crisp sound effects and epic music that really doesn't get repetative. The voice acting is also very well done in the cut scenes (which are very good by the way).
Value/Tilt - It took me about 13 hours to beat the game for the first time but there are a lot of pretty good unlockables and the game is really that fun to play it through a couple of times. Theres also multiple difficulty settings including a God mode which i heard is very tough to beat (i havn't tried it yet myself). One thing i would have liked is if they allowed you to carry over all your moves, weapons etc; once you beat the game, you have to start from scratch again. I think this would have added a slightly higher replay value. Closing Comments - Although this game truly was very fun to play and has some decent replay value, i would have to recommend renting it first and ask yourself if its worth the 50 bucks. I think this game did lack replay value and in my opinion isn't worth 50 bucks (which is roughly what it's currently selling for). So my advice to the people who havn't played God of War yet and are debating whether to buy it or not, again, rent it first and then decide.
