You will absolutely LOVE renting this game.

First of all, I'm so glad that I paid less than $20 for this one. God of War is the quickest game that I've ever completed. Although, it is well made with an interesting story and decent gameplay, there is too much missing to rate this game even close what it has. On my first play through, I ignored using most of the orbs that I had collected (to power up) and still managed to walk through most of the levels with ease. I could only imagine God mode being even more tedious, with enemies re-spawning literally endlessly. Then there's the button-coordinated fighting sequences that wore my thumbs down to the point of falling off! Expect to pound away in a rage to take down certain enemies over and over... and over again. The fighting also plays out similar to "arena fighting" in that you're most likely to be ambushed within hallways, on ledges, in small rooms, on small tiers, on ropes, ect.-ect. The fighting done while holding onto walls is also very weak as your choice to swing is up, down, left and right, yet an enemy may be at a diagonal. In the end, your final conflict will be less exciting than an oversized fight with the weakest enemy in the game. Limited gameplay area doesn't lend itself to very much depth or replay value either. The game presents a vast overall surrounding but in actuality, each progression will confine you to three to five rooms at best. The puzzles make a good addition to the gameplay as it will likely double the amount of time it would normally take you to complete it. For better or worse, the restricted area in which to explore doesn't make solving even the toughest puzzle too hard or long to figure out. If you do get stumped, expect to be stuck in the same few rooms for however long it takes you. Some puzzles just require logic. I suggest you sleep on those.
Don't get me wrong, God of War is down right eye candy at times. It has a solid story-line that unfolds the reasoning behind your tortured and tormented existence. The fighting is top notch as you can rein absolute FURY down on your enemies. But in the end, don't expect this to compare with other games of the same rating. You will absolutely LOVE renting this game.
