Fun yet not Fantastic

User Rating: 7.8 | God of War (Greatest Hits) PS2
Reading all the reviews and effusing this game received I was compelled to purchase it when it became a “greatest hits” . I found it very entertaining and a very good first effort but having just completed devil may cry 3 previously I found certain aspects of the game play wanting. What I mean by this is that first off though I found the game to be quite beautiful but I also found the speed and ebb of the game had taken a toll with notable shuttering. The fighting system is rather good but I wished there was a lock on mechanism included in the mechanic. Which brings me to my next qualm, enemy movement, the characters at points seemed to float instead of their steps correlating to the movement they made, so some terrestrial peons would to literally seem swarm around you. also when attacking an enemy they would sometimes miraculously return attract mid-combo, so while receiving a significant blow instead of being fazed or knocked back the just stand there respond with a swipe. The game is very reminisant of devil may cry, though the sling blades and ancient Greek aspect makes the game seem like a much-improved Rygar. This game did have a passable story and didn’t spew forth the cheese as the other two aformented games did. As mentioned before, the game is quite beautiful helped by the large scale of levels and numerous reflective surfaces and lighting effects found where in. Ultimately I found it a very good game although it did not live up to the hype surrounding it.
