God of War is the greatest action game that popped up in a long time. If you have even a mild interest in games, Get It!
The story in God of War is narrated by Flashbacks and an old lady's voice.
You start out as Kratos. He is probably the meanest, angriest, most hardcore bad-ass ever! He appears this way at first but you eventually find out he is a tragic character (no spoilers here). The game starts out with Kratos jumping off a ledge to his seemingly desired death. Afterwards, you are taken 3 weeks before this tragic event. You take control of Kratos in a wrecked ship in the Aegian Sea, armed and ready to split some heads open.
The gameplay in God of War is not Mind Blowing, but it is still pretty damn good. Fighting is pretty basic; square is light attack and triangle is heavy attack and you basically alternate between the two. However, what makes this so awesome is that you can punch in ANY combination of the two and Kratos will almost always whip out some Bone-crushing, Blood-splling combo shredding his enemies to bits. His weapon is the Blades of Chaos and he swings these things around Killing everything making Kratos the bloodiest slaughterhouse on two feet. Sometimes, when an enemy is weakened, a large O will appear over their head. Press O and you'll be able to kill em through a little mini game (with an awesome animation). This makes you feel part of the game and like you're really tearing them apart in sum gruesome way which ultimately feels satisfying. However, since it uses the same animation over and over, it gets boring after a while. Also, the 2 button combination battle system could have been alot more complex.
God of War has the greatest graphics i have ever seen in this kind of game. An impeccable attention to detail has given to the game and everything looks absolutely gorgeous. You may find yourself simply stopping for a while simply to take a look at the beautiful scenery. (The scene where Kratos enters Athens for the first time is simply Breathtaking!)
The sound in God of War is nothing short of perfect. His blades of Chaos slices through his enemies and you literrally feel bad for them because it sounds so painful. But you get over it quickly since tons of them are thrown at you only so you can give them what they are asking for. They scream painfully making you feel like "the Man".
This game has excellent replay value because it has a ton of extra bonusesthat you unlock after completing the game. The most notable being "Challenge of the Gods" where Kratos must go through several difficult challenges and unlocking cool things upon completing each one.
All in all, God of War is a spectacular game that should definately be checked out by anyone who is a living breathing human being..... who happens to like games.
