Man this game is totally awesome. This is what action adventure is supposed to be about! This game has intense violence,
The game starts off with showing are main character, Kratos. appearing to commit suicide... then it goes 3 weeks earlier... and your on a boat being attacked by all these monsters! The stroy unravels... you learn about Kratos' past and i really won't spoil it, you have to get this game and see this epic story. Well just something you are dying to know, remember its a tiny bit... Kratos isn't very pleased with himself and the Gods gave him power to get rid of Ares (God of War) and the Gods will forgive him of his past. The story is really great for a action adventure, ties with Prince of Persia but this is more interesting seeing how it unfolds.
You have blades and you use them to kill nearly anything, while your in Athens you can kill people to gain health, how cruel is that? You'll love doing this! The controls are very simple; a jump, attack, heavy attack, grab, special thing, tackle, magic button. Special thing is basically to open chests, doors etc... Then there are combos and very easy but strong combos. Things like Square, Square, Triangle result into strong attacks. You can grab enemies and take them to the ground and start stabbing them hard, or you can just attack them whilst holding them. You can send enemies airbone and unleash combos on them or grab them and do strong combos from there. Magic is straight forward you have an icon for magic you hold L2 and do what you have to. Like shoot Zeus bolts, freeze enemies. Of course it isn't infinite, you have a magic bar, health bar which you can extend as you find stuff.
You can upgrade your weapons and your new magic skills to make them stronger with a variety of different effects. There are red orb thingies you find by killing enemies and in chests. You start at level 1 then on the screen it tells you what your neext u[grade for that thing is going to do, very interesting system.
For the actual adventure you go through a ship first and find a boss, with some minor puzzles that'll take a few seconds to go through then you are at Athens to destroy Ares and more events happen before you do much and many more puzzles. Then there are enimes ranging from just undead people to mythical beasts, like minotaurs, gorgons, trolls and etc. There are little sequence to kill particular enimes sometimes, like a minotaur, when its weak enough a circle comes above its head and you have to try to grab it and you have to continuously tap circle until it dies or if you're not quick enough it'll throw you away. Then there are different combinations like you have to move the analog to a direction shown on the screen or press a button it shows on the screen.
Its Ancient Greece at its finest. Graphically this game is great! Nearly everything is detailed in top shape. I've seen better but this is great anyways, its better than Prince of Persia for starters. The CG cutscenes are great too. And its a fine setting they chose and made it like what you would think ancient greece is! The models are really awesome but not perfect... after you play games with superior graphics, you wouldn't say this game is perfect in the graphic area but it is really good.
The music sounded very obvious theme for Greece but great music! As the gamespot review says it IS one of the best orchestral scores I ever heard. The music gets really intense when enemies are around, and it puts me on focus. The voice acting is great, Kratos sounds MEAN! And he is! Then there is Athena who has a nice soft voice, then Zeus, like a raged voice.
Ok this game is pretty easy near the beginning and there is this awesome attack you can continue for ever to make it easier so it would last very long maybe 15 hours. But then when you finish the normal mode you gain extras, and you can finish hard mode knowing whats coming... then GOD MODE! To unlcock even MORE! So you might play this game through more than once.
