Greek mythology, violence, monsters and more violence. Sounds like any other game, but GoW is a modern revolution!
I remember the day I first heard about God of War, I was working a dull job during the summer to raise finances for my studies. I read a review in a magazine stating that GoW is a "amazing achievement and an icon for game design". This does of course implicate that the game is in fact good, and I thought to myself that I had to try it at some point. Said and done, one weekend a mate and myself decided that we should rent a game instead of a movie, an action oriented game that we could play just for fun, and so we decided to rent God of War. After that weekend we were hooked, and we rented it again so we could finish the game. A couple of months later the game entered platinum status, which means the price drops, and naturally I decided to buy the game although I had already finished it. Subsequently me and my mate have finished the game in several levels of difficulty and we're still playing it, it's just that good!
God of War is one of the best games ever created, and the reason for this is as with any topnotch game: it has it all. The balance of difficulty and challenge, amazing graphics that pushes the limit, sound that elevates the experience to a whole new level, a story that engages you as well as impresses you, and all of this wrapped in an mindbogglingly impressive package. The SCEA-team managed to create a milestone in gaming history and for me it dropped like out of a blue sky. I am ever grateful for choosing to give GoW a chance, because I will never forget the experience.
God of War is a masterpiece, and a given part of any PS2 owner's library of games!
