I remember the first time I picked this game up. It was $24.99 and a Greatest Hits title at the time. This game deserves even more than a Greatest Hits title. This game is flawless. The only really frustrating parts about the game was the challenges after you beat the game. Those can make you want to throw your controller, which I did. A couple times. Nonetheless, "God of War" is a masterpiece. Visuals are great for the console, game play has yet to be matched, and the gore level in the cut-scenes is just icing on the cake. The game play in "God of War" is enough to make any RPG sweat with intimidation. This game will have you hooked right at very start just from the excellent control scheme, and suck you further into the game with its magnetic storyline. "God of War" will be remembered as quite possibly the greatest game to hit PS2.
