Not as good as I thought, but still good
God of War is somewhat of a button masher, but doesn't seem to be one. If you have ever played the LOTR:TT or LOTR:ROTK, it might appeal to you and might seem similar...well with a whole lot more blood and gore. The combat is very simple and you will be accustomed to it within a few minutes of playing the game. You have two types of attacks a quick and a powerful attack, each assigned to a button (quick=square and power=triangle). You can also hold the triangle button down and fling an enemy into the air, allowing you to grab them and throw them onto the ground. Another option for the combat is grabbing an enemy and executing them with a combo. During the course of the game, you will receive these red orbs that will allow you to upgrade things such as your fighting skills and your magic ability.
The game's enemies are based on Greek mythology and some are easy to kill soldiers and some are huge beasts that you will have to do some work on them to kill. The game's bosses are some of the best bosses to be in a game. They will usually involve you wearing them down until you must mash a button or pull off a series of button combos to defeat them. Once you have killed an enemy, the game has the most blood I have ever seen in a game and the blood will shoot out of enemies once they are killed.
I used to play games like God of War all the time, but have moved onto games more military based and God of War has made my interest in these types of games return. I would easily recommend this game to anyone interested in Greek mythology or someone who is just looking for a fun game for $20. God of War has to be one of the best games on the PS2 out today. So if you are looking for a great $20 PS2 game, I recommend you check this game out or at least rent it.
