The culmination of unabashed savagery and unadulterated creativity makes God of War the pinnacle of all action games

User Rating: 10 | God of War (Greatest Hits) PS2
I don't want to dive into video game politics but there needs to be more games like this. I can already picture video game phobic conservative parents and adults looking down on me for making such a bold statement.

There is an "AO" and "M" rating in video games for a reason and developers need to follow David Jaffe and co. and just let the creative psychopath loose.

God of War is THE brazenly brutal action game for the PS2 that holds no bars with the blood, gore and sex. At the risk of sounding chauvinistic, this is a MAN'S GAME.

No words can describe how thrilled I was to play as the ice-cold savage slaughterer, Kratos who gives justice back to antiheroes. In recent games they've been watered down to self-conflicted yet ultimately sympathetic pretty boys.

For an action game, God of War is long and lasts for over 15 hours or more depending on how you play. The action is nonstop and begins almost immediately where Kratos usually finds himself with the task of slaughtering hordes of undead soldiers and mythological Greek creatures to wreak havoc on Ares, his ex-master and betrayer.

The Blades of Chaos (Kratos's default weapons) are some of the most unique weapons in a long time and allows players to chain over a hundred different combos to their bloodthirsty delight. There are combat "mini-games" which allow players to slay mini-bosses in brutal fashion with the right execution of button taps.

As the game progresses, players find new ways to power up and give Kratos new moves, attacks, weapons and magic spells to further their destructive creativity.

A game so full of destruction is not without its brains - God of War has smatterings of simple puzzles throughout and the beauty is they are not so evident for players to yawn at. They are seamlessly integrated into the system to complement Kratos and further the plot.

High-production values include interesting cinematics, enthusiastic voice acting and near-perfect framerate and overall visual presentation.

This is THE action game for the PS2 and missing it would be a travesty. If you're feeling like going on a murderous rampage simply let Kratos be your digital avatar and let loose!
