Brilliant, and one of the best action/adventure games ever made.

User Rating: 10 | God of War (Greatest Hits) PS2
It is very rare to come across a game like God of War. I was totally and completely hooked from the beginning till the end; and there aren’t many games out there that can do this and do it as very well as God of War. The game opens with its anti-hero Kratos, haunted by his past, tormented by his dreams and committing suicide. And unlike the usual formula of the anti-heroes that we know, he's not a misunderstood good person with questionable methods. He's a revengeful, brutal man who will torture and slaughter anybody even the innocents if they stand in his way.

Kratos is on a quest, a perilous journey to destroy the god that he once served: Ares, the god of war. And to be able to face a God he needs a divine power, a power that can only be found in Pandora’s Box. Standing between him and the box is the most beautifully crafted environments and the most imaginative and fantastic world that varies from the roof of Athens, dangerous seas to the very depth of hell itself.

God of War is simply amazing. It combines all the very best elements that make an excellent Action/Adventure game, mastering every aspect along the way and adding a few magic touches here and there to give you one of the most complete and well developed game.

Playing God of War you will quickly come to realize that the camera movement is quite intuitive and knows just where to be each moment and that improve the gameplay and simply make it more enjoyable. You can collect orbs along the way and use them to enhance your weapons, increase the power of your magical attacks and improve your armors; you’ll get these orbs from finding hidden treasures and killing vicious enemies. Progressing through the game, Kratos will have access to other special powers given to him by the Gods who are helping him in his quest. Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus all give you a special ability and further enhancing a specific one of those abilities will have a huge impact on the way each one of us will play the game. Armed with a devastating weapon known as the Blades of Chaos which you can perform numerous combo attacks with; you’ll be able to slice and dice every single enemy the game throw at your face. But the game is not all combats, there are puzzles to be solved and they can be genuinely difficult at times. God of War has the best Graphics the playstation 2 has so offer, the physics engine is just superb, the environments are splendidly detailed. The main character (Kratos) is well designed and he does look like a Spartan warrior. The soundtrack seamlessly set the mood for the game, and together with the environmental sounds effects and the voice acting which could not be better help make this game a truly immersive experience.

The cut scenes are of the utmost quality, you watch bits and pieces of them as you progress your way through the game. Not only it tells the story of our Kratos and why he is on this journey, but it also makes the whole game experience entirely epical.

It’s very hard to put into words what makes this game so sublime. It’s something you’ll have to experience for yourself. God of War does a superb job of keeping things fresh from the beginning to the end. The game has the definitive combination of artistic and technical majesty and truly brilliant collection of music and sound effects, and a storyline so satisfying it is redefining the whole Greek mythology.
Without a doubt, one of the best games ever conceived.
