The game that every psp owner has
For every system there are some games that everyone has. Cod mod2, Uncharted 2, Mario Kart, ect. Well, this would be the one for the psp. It deserves praise, but does it deserve the amount of praise everyone is giving it? Well, personally, it is a landmark achievement for the psp in terms of graphics, but game play... nothing special. If you loved the first two God of War's you'd know what I'm talking about.
Where are the puzzles? I encountered only a few puzzles throughout the whole 5 hour campaign, Yep only 5 hours. Those 5 hours might be one hell of a ride, but its only five hours. Also , like Gamespot recently stated, where was the platforming that made the first two so fun?
Aside from those setbacks, this is still God of War. In other words, you still feel like a total badass. The graphics are the best on the psp system and top most ps2 games. The story, as mentioned before, is short but entertaining. It wont compel you to the game like Shadow of the Colossus but its easy to tell it was a well thought out idea that was executed nicely. The game play that made God of War on the ps2 so addictive is mostly back. On top i complained why its MOSTLY but its still back and its still a lot of fun. Hack and slash with chain combos are back. There are not much variety in weapons but there is an upgrading system to improve them and have new abilities. This adds some re playability to the game.
Overall, God of War Chains of Olympus is that game that everyone owns. It might be over appreciated (in my opinion) for the lack of puzzles, platforming, and the overall lasting appeal but for the 5 hours i played it was fun. The game looks great on the psp's small screen and plays fluid with no frame rate issues. Aside from the campaign you can take on challenges to test your skills. I like this game a lot, it just baffles me how it got so much praise. I recommend it to anyone with a psp, but beware only a 5-6 hour long campaign. Other then those shortcomings, this is a great way to experience gaming on the go.
