packed with violent action and better graphics, truly the last greatest game on PS2.

User Rating: 9.5 | God of War II PS2
Once again, we venture into the world of Ancient Greek Mythology to follow the story of Kratos, the antihero who killed the former god of war Ares to become the new god of war himself in this violent and brutal epic of revenge.
So now that Kratos is on his throne as the new god of war, and unsatisfied with the gods not giving him a relief from his past sins, he turns out to be an even more brutal and ruthless god of war, for he has gathered his Spartan followers to bring destruction on all of the Greek cities which-no wonder-angers the gods of Olympus, so they decide to put a stop to him by taking away his godly powers, to return him into a mortal once again. And that's only the first part of the game. For you're about to join Kratos in an epic journey of revenge against the gods, and mainly the king of the gods Zeus himself.
The first God Of War game stunned every one with incredible graphics that made us all think that it isn't a PS2 game, and in this installment the developers worked hard to improve those graphics even more, this is truly the best looking game on PS2 and a true test of the power of the console. The character models, the way they move, the environments and the special effects all look amazingly stunning and let's not forget the breathtaking sense of scale that accompanied you in the last game, it's here also to give you more wows, just wait till you see kratos walking on a giant chain which links an island to the steads of time, which are also another amazing sight, they are giant horses waiting to be awakened in order to take Kratos to his next destination. They are so huge that Kratos will look like a small bug next to them.
The action in God Of War II is -as ever- accompanied by a symphonic score that suites the action perfectly, which is great because it gives you a sense of the grandness of the events your going through, the action you're experiencing, and the battles your fighting.
And speaking of fighting, that's what this game does best, the battle is smooth and dynamic just like in the first game, there are some new moves but they're just as easy to command and use as the old ones, and thankfully they're all brutal violent and evil acts of savagery. Very nice indeed. New spells are also available, like the one that allows Kratos to use ice arrows, another that gives him the ability to stun and electrify opponents, and a ground shake in addition to the old Gorgon stare. Kratos will also learn new moves and abilities as he makes progress through the game, like climbing ceilings, running, and gliding using wings( which I won't tell you how you'll acquire them, you'll see for yourself ). You'll face some new foes in addition to your old range of Cyclops, undead Legionnaires, Satyrs, Gorgons, Sirens, and Minotaurs. For example you'll be fighting skeleton warriors, small hogs, and griffons to mention a few. Another addition to this game is the inclusion of more bosses than in the previous game, and they're all very fun to fight and even more fun to finish off. Even the opening battle in this game is an epic battle against a colossus in the middle of the city, with soldiers all around, it's all similar to the Hydra battle in the first game. And let's not forget the adjusted camera angles which add to the epic sense of your surroundings and the whole game as a whole. And again the game will take you to amazing locations, the most special of them all is the skies where you fight griffon riding undead warriors while you're riding your trusty Pegasus…just plain amazing! You'll see for your self.
The game gives you extras so after you finish the game there are challenges to try out, and harder difficulty levels to test your skills at, but you should know that all of these extras are not really as interesting as those found in the first game.
All in all this game is everything that we all have been waiting for, and although the story here is more about things happening around Kratos, while in the previous God Of War game it was more about Kratos and finding out about his past and what's happening with him, along the way of his journey. It still is a fine piece of gaming that truly deserves to be the bearer of the title: the truly Last and greatest action game on PS2.
