Head kicking action packed game
God of War II sure does live up to the franchise's name, but just how much does it live up to? The game shares alot of similarities with the first title and still brings something new for more fun and more excitement. Yet, I still think God of War was better than it's sequel, which I'll give a quick review right about...NOW!
The game starts off a good few years after GoW (I think) and well..Kratos goes after the Gods themselves. A big ass war is about to emerge from the crazyness that the mythology is and you will settle it all as one single person being. BAM I end it here for the story going..hell I don't want any spoilers in my reviews, aight?
The game looks beautiful. The graphics, visuals, level designs, everything compelled within the word "art" totally surpasses the first game and any PS2 game I have yet to play. I have no complaints in this department. Basicaly said: You can't get any prettier than this title right here, buddy. If you know any game looking better than this (please spare me the Final Fantasy galore..god they've gone too far with FF it's not even a game anymore it's a fanboyism installment) I dare you to tell me the name of that game without having your head chopped off. Meaning I simply don't care, I personally think this is the best looking game out there for PS2 and shows just how far the PS2 is from dieing at the hands of the PS3 despite the powerful system it is.
The game controls perfectly. The simple attacks remains the same while any special attacks have come to a change. You use Athena's blades with which you ended the first game, new magics come up in your face and they are some pretty sweet magics. The buttons are used the same as in the first game only ALOT of features have been added. Now I might sound "undetailistic" (if that word even exist, but you understand me) but ya know how I am and I am pretty simple and unspoiling at my best. The controls feel smooth, feels perfect, are easy to learn and easy to deal with. You can't block anymore...HAHA! jus kidding you can still block. That game would be total **** if you couldn't block anyway.
Ah man why am I even writting review as of now, I don't really feel like it, but still I'll keep it going as weird and bad it can get. The gameplay is awesome, alot of action although there are more puzzles than in the first game which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. The AI isn't all that stupid but sometimes makes you wonder..at least they know that teaming up on you is one hell of a challenge for your little brain. It also happens that you just run endlessly without anything happe ning other than a few traps here and there..of did I forget the traps? They sure are deadly. If they can make anything deadlier than the traps in GoWII, people will sure end up hating GoW to death. They are well done, but so deadly I tell ya -.- did I say the traps were especially deadly? Cause they sure are. Is that even part of the gameplay? to me it sure is. The greatest part of this game are the bosses, how you defeat them, and how you actually do need to use alot of strategy for some of them. Watch out cause you got some really wicked boss fights.
The music is VERY similar to the first game in my ears opinions. Altered a bit, but I guess that's a thing with every single franchise out there. Still, music and spounds are well rendered and sound awesome and totally brings you into the depths of the game.
The game has MUCH less replay value than the first title in my opinion. The bonuses you unlock by doing near impossible stuff isn't as much worth it anymore. Even myself think will dump Titan mode cause I just don't feel it is worth going through it only to get my ass kicked 300 times and more if possible. Yet it's pretty fun to see Kratos run arpound in all these fun costumes. That's something, you have much more things to do for unlocking everything than ypou did before. Collect cylops eyes, discover secret Urns, beat this that way and beat that this way, all along with a bonus DVD including ALOT of material to watch, but unfortunately, they are much less amusing to watch than the old bonuses of before. I mean if I could judge the bonuses without ever having played GoW, I'd still think they were kinda cheap a bit..there's several of em, but not all that exciting. Worth a check, but not worth a second check.
Basicaly, God of War II is an amazing game, worth the money, worth the small gameplay time there is (yet a bit longer than the first title), but in my opinion doesn't stand out as being better than the first title. Although many features have been added (airborn fights, hooks madness which you'll udnerstand when playing, etc) makes it worth all it has to give. It sure lives up to the first game, but comes a bit under it.
Hope ya'll apreciated/hated my review. I gave a simple, very simplistic view of what the game has to offer knowing most people owning this game have also played the first game which anyway, unless you play just to play, you need to have played the first game to follow the story accordingly.
I admit that my review is very cheap right now, but what you want, when a game is in a way too similar to the other title under the same franchise (ex: Zelda) you can't say much about it.
Conclusion: Great game, go buy it, rent it if you are unsure, any action lovers will enjoy this game to the fullest, and GoW fanatics will be disapointed a little bit but will still enjoy the full experiment this brings.
I'm done! WOO! I CAN GO SHOWER! I'm out of here finally.
BUTTON MASHING ALL THE WAY!
seriously..what can ya say when the game is too similar to the other game?
