Great game with more boss battles than the previous game and improved puzzles. Not to mention it's a lot more vicious.
In fear of being betrayed and overthrown by Kratos, Zeus betrays Kratos and takes his his godly powers away. Following this, Kratos is determined to find the Sisters of the Fate, who are conveniently located in a huge remote island with tons of puzzles and enemies, in order to change his fate and gain revenge on Zeus.
God of War 2 is the same as the first game in gameplay. Kratos' main weapon is Athena's Blades, the very same blades that were attached to his body in the first game. With these blades Kratos is able to grapple to grapple points, climb on walls, hang from the ceiling, break objects to reveal his path but first and foremost it is used to plow through the hordes of enemies you will encounter in your quest for revenge.
As the game progresses Kratos earns a variety of weapons and magic abilities and can be used to fulfill the main goal of this game, to brutally slaughter monsters. In addition to that, again, just like in the first game, you still earn red orbs for upgrading weapons, green orbs for health, blue orbs for mana and yellow orbs to fill up Rage of the Titans, which is a slightly improved Rage of the Gods.
After weakening enemies, especially bosses, Kratos will be forced to engaged an action sequence in which the player has to press certain buttons to brutally and viciously eliminate his foes.
2 new features to the game are the abilities to block and deflect projectiles back at the enemy and the ability to slow down time at designated spots. Another new feature is Pegasus, whom Kratos gets to ride while he's killing Griffins and Ravens. It's a shame that there aren't many of these fast-paced sequences.
Besides the intriguing plot, that does not stay loyal to Greek mythology, the best aspect of this game is without a doubt the fighting. You will get a chance to fight enemies of all sizes, types and colors and you will get a chance to slaughter them with 1 of 4 weapons and 4 magic abilities that are at your disposal. Each action sequence is more brutal than the other and you will feel your heart pumping in excitement every time Kratos kills a minion with his own arm or whenever Kratos pulls out the eye of a Cyclop.
God fo War 2 is a highly violent and entertaining game, even though the fighting is prone to button mashing and the ending doesn't provide you with closer and the satisfaction you deserve for killing your way to revenge, it stills leaves you with goosebumps and you can't wait for the next installment in the series.
