The end of Kratos' journey is worth joining with every breath the man takes.
The story here is deeply rooted into Greek mythology, as the whole series has been, but all you really need to know is that Kratos seeks to end the rule of the gods and the life of Zeus. His quest for revenge is the driving force behind every action and there is not one mortal, god, or other that stands in his way. You will brutalize gods such as Helios and Hera and take on all the famous creatures you've come to know, including Harpies, Minotaurs, and Cyclops. And what a show it is. Using a vast assortment of weapon and attack combos, you can devestate these creatures, allowing for small mini-game type finishers similar to the first two games. Only this time, you will do it more often.
To aid you in your quest, you have several weapons to choose from, all of which can be upgraded. The weapons are better and your move set it more impressive. Simply put, combat is consistently fun. It not only looks impressive to see Kratos destroy a legion of creatures twice his size, but feels impressive too. Most impressive are the Titans, whom Kratos has several encounters with. You'll find yourself often on the bodies of these creatures as they storm Mt. Olympus. And they are absolutely huge. The camera at times will allow you to see just how huge these Titans really are. All this is wrapped up in an excellent looking HD package that begs to be played on the best TV you can play it on.
This isn't to say GOW III is the perfect game. The camera angle can be a hinderance at times, putting itself in places that only help get you killed. The ending to the game will also, no doubt, divide people. With everything that you had just gone through, it feels a little tacked on, as if they've purposely left it open for more story despite this game having been the end of his journey. Still, these are minor issues that pale in comparison to the monumental achievement Santa Monica Studios has made. This is a game that is extremely well crafted giving the player the power to do some major damage and take on some of the most epic battles that any game has ever known. No doubt, Kratos vs. one of the Titans will go down as one of the most epic boss battles ever created.
