An epic end to the legendary trilogy, if only there was more included to keep its lifespan up.
User Rating: 9 | God of War III PS3
The God of War series is perhaps one of the most followed and well known of any series ever brought to the Playstation. Ever since its PS2 release the game has been known for its fast, bloody and brutal gameplay and its spin on Greek Mythology, however the finale to the trilogy is a bit of a letdown. Don't get me wrong, its worth a play, two plays, even for those who are unfamiliar to the series. The games story picks up where the previous game left, much like any other sequel and can be completed well under 10 hours, although it can take upwards of 12 hours your first time round. Perhaps the most praised element of GOW3 are the graphics. There crisp and realistic without being so overdone that they take your attention away from the main game itself, the sound is spot on as well. From the cries heard in battle to the stellar voice-acting the overall mood is good and the gameplay (which is GOW3's strongest elements) is good. The battle controls are easy to learn and the movement of Kratos is easy enough to control that you'll have very little trouble during platforming and overall movement. Once the games story has been completed, a few extra elements are unlocked such combat challenges and a ton of extra videos but unfortunately thats pretty much all there is.
Overall, God of War 3 is a fitting finale to the revenge plot of the Fallen Spartan Kratos. Its slick visuals, sound and gameplay coupled with the story make it a passable and fun finale. The negatives are that the story and gameplay can be difficult for new-comers to follow and understand and the game only has a total lifespan of about 15 hours (if you playthrough once and try out the frustrating challenges). The game is also much more forgiving than the previous entries to the series.
Overall, I give it 9/10
