At first you might think that Godzilla Save the Earth is the kind of game that you might find in a bargin bin or in the back of the games shelf. Many people have the impression that Godzilla Save the Earth is boring and slow. They could not be farther from the truth. Godzilla Save the Earth is a vast improvment over the original which was already an astounding achievment. Unlike most fighting games Godzilla Save the Earth has a story to it. It goes like this: the queen of the Vortaak named Portisha has now taken matters in to her own hands, sending Gigan and King Ghidorah as well as many other monsters down to Earth to try and find, and bring back G-Cells to her to create an ultimate monster. G-Cells are Godzilla's DNA which scientists have worked with and have finally made into a highly concentrated substance. Godzilla when the monsters come down from the sky sent by Portisha imiediatly start to destroy every thing in sight. It is up to Godzilla to Save the Earth. With the story aside Godzilla Save the Earth is also an amazing game. The control scheme on both the Playstation 2 and Xbox are both equaly well laid out. Making the punch, kick, fierce and block all into the four buttons on the right side of the controller (for Playstation 2 the X, O, Square, and Triangle buttons and on Xbox the A, B, X and Y buttons. The beam and projectile are fitted into one button. R1 for Playstation 2 and Black for Xbox. Holding the beam button charges up you monsters beam and then release it when charged to the disered extent. Only tapping the beam button will release the projectile attack. There is also a throw button. After you pick up your opponent pressing punch will just normally toss your enemy out infront of your monster but pressing the kick or fierce buttons will preform a monster speciefic throw. Such as Gigan will drop his opponent on his buzzsaw belly and spin them on it then letsd them go. The normal toss out in front throw is the same for every monster but the other two are unique. Some monsters also have special abilities, such as Megalon has the ability to burrow underground for a limited time. While underground Megalon is immune to all attacks and can move around in this state as well. If you are under and enemy while burrowed you can quickly come up and grab your opponent at the same time. Special power -ups appear as you battle these power-ups include: a health booster, and energy refill, a rage power-up which makes your opponent go into rage mode. While in this state your monsters is more powerful than normal and can perform his or her rage attack. The rage attack is a super-powerful attack which is unblockable and does severe damage to your opponent. The final power-up is the Battra air-strike which replaces the Mothra air-strike from Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee, because since now Mothra is a playable monster. Under the health bar in the HUD during battle, your monster also has an energy meter. This meter is what fuels your monsters energy attacks, beam and sometimes projectile. In addition to an energy meter some monsters have an ammo counter. Other projectiles or attacks require ammo. Your ammo is also refilled by one unit when you pick up an energy powerup. All of the monsters from Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee return in Godzilla Save the Earth. Bringing with them seven additions (or in the case of the Xbox version of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee six) which include: Baragon, Mothra, Megaguires, Mogeura 2, Space Godzilla, Jet Jaguar, and if you owned the Nintendo Gamecube version of Godzilla Destroy All Monstes melee, Mechagodzilla 3 (also known as Kiryu). Each every one of these monsters are differnent. Now more than ever because Godzilla 90's and Godzilla 2000 in Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee were virtually identical and King Ghidorah and Mecha King Ghidorah were pretty similar as well. Now the two Godzillas are now much more different with different throws, taunts, roars, victory poses, resistances, what they inflict damage-wise (Godzilla 90's inflicts more Blunt attacks than edged which Godzilla 2000 inflicts more of), and now more drastically changed than ever, their rage attacks. Godzilla 90's now blasts out a super-charged beam while Godzilla 2000 creates and explosive shockwave. The new monsters are equally as amazing. Mothra is a good example. Mothra does not start out as her adult form, but as big caterpiller which can evolve into adult Mothra at any time in the battle. Graphically the game is a big improvement and is now one of the best looking games I have ever seen. All of the old monsters look much better, which must seem pretty hard to believe because they started out looking amazing in Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee. Godzilla Save the Earth has had a major overhaul in the sound area as now there are realistic bite, crunch, slash and blunt, knocking sounds which are all new and makes Godzilla Save the Earth sound amazing. There is now no more rag-doll physics as now you can no longer send a monster flying alomst off the screen but only send them a good five or six hundred feet above your monsters head. This is also one of the longest games I have ever played due to four player modes, the challenges and the action mode as well as many others. Now there is a different way to get new monsters and cities. You must purchase them with points you earn while playing action mode is a much better way so instead of slogging the adventure mode a couple of times you can just simply keep on beating action mode which also unlocks challenges which are a fun new addition that is another reason to play through Godzilla Save the Earth many different times. In the end Godzilla Save the Earth is and astounding success and I think Pipeworks softwear put a lot of effort into this.
