The ultimate FPS!

User Rating: 10 | GoldenEye 007 N64
It is a very rare moment in video games that a game based off a movie would ever actually be good. GoldenEye 007 here is one of those incredibly rare moments, and it definitely surpasses almost every sort of movie-game tie in ever made! The movie itself was pretty good, but the game it was based off of has actually become more popular. Not only is it a really fantastic game, it was also highly revolutionary. For if it wasn't for this game, we wouldn't have gotten other franchises like the Halo franchise, Call of Duty, and Borderlands. Also, you knew it was a great title, because after all Rare made this game, and most of their N64 titles were massive hits. No N64 collection is complete without the world's best James Bond game.

The game essentially follows the plot of the movie of the same name (but I don't feel like going over the synopsis), even being able to recapture some of the more memorable moments from the movie. You'll be traveling to many different locales such as Soviet Russia, a nuclear facility, the USSR, a frigate, and many more. There are three difficulties to choose from. The higher the difficulty, the more damage you take and the more missions you have to accomplish. The missions come in many varieties and some are uniquely challenging in their own right. However your missions with Natalya, a female Co-Hort, will instantly get on your nerves. While you are accomplishing the missions you will be shooting a ton of bad guys. That is of course the most satisfying game about any good FPS. You'll be killing alot of these bad guys with alot of great weapons, such as a sniper rifle, assault rifle, pistol, magnum, a tank, a so much more. Alot of these great weapons, including the golden gun, are a blast to use in the ever popular multiplayer option where you and three other friends play as various characters from the movie and duke it out in death matches.

Thanks to the innovative N64 analog control and Z-button, players were given some of the smoothest controls in a video game. Couple that with a rumble pak and you got yourself a very well defined package. To further add to this excellent package is the amazing graphic and sound quality. While character models appear to be blocky, back then they were very realistic, and sporting some fantastic animations. The environments and character models all have a great attention to detail to them and they are still some of the finest graphics on the system. The music and sound effects kicks ass. The weapons sound incredibly satisfying and the 90s Bond-styled music just enhances the action.

To sum things up:

PROS:
.Fantastic graphics for its time. The environments and character models are nicely detailed and at the time very realistic
. Fantastic music that set up the Bond atmosphere
. Nice animation
. Follows the plot of the movie pretty nicely
. Precise control that really isn't too complicated
. Nice assortment of weapons
. Great multiplayer

CONS:
. NATAYLA!

This game is just absolutely fantastic in every sense of the word. It could perhaps be my favorite FPS of all time. As I said before, very rarely has there ever been a good movie game. However, it is now highly impossible to make a movie game that can top GoldenEye.
