One of the greatest FPS of all time... and it's on a console!?
User Rating: 9.6 | GoldenEye 007 N64
What makes a classic game? Good graphics? Great multiplayer? Content? Goldeneye has all of this and more. One of the best games on one of my personal favorite consoles has to be Goldeneye 007. This game is amazing. The graphics are amazing. Even by today’s standards they are not too shabby. The textures and backgrounds are crisp and clean (as about as crisp and clean as they can get on the N64), and the characters look amazingly like their real life human actors/actresses. The sound design in this game is really awesome. Guns in the game sound believably powerful. The music is right on cue with the movie as well. Another strong point of the game that needs to be brought to attention is the multiplayer mode. I have never had so much fun with any multiplayer game before Goldeneye. There are many characters to choose from and a few secrets ones as well. Speaking of secrets, this brings me to the games content. I strongly believe that a game must have some kind of additional content, such as multiplayer modes or secrets, to be successful. It’s what keeps us playing the game long after it is beaten. Goldeneye has this, not as much as some games but more than most. Some of these things include multiplayer with secret characters and all, un-lockable cheat codes received when levels are beaten with certain times (which provide a very fun challenge), and even a couple of secret levels and other cool features. This game holds its’ value right up there with games like Half-Life for the PC. Goldeneye is nearly a 7 years old game that is still widely played today. It may be 2004 now, and other FPS games like Doom 3, Halo 2, and Half-Life 2 dominate the market, I would still highly recommend Goldeneye to any one who has a Nintendo 64 or who hasn’t played it yet. It’s worth dusting off an old console, or even purchasing a new (a.k.a. used) N64 just to play it.
