Not that scary ... not that fun either

User Rating: 5.5 | Goosebumps HorrorLand DS
I have already reviewed Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party and Guinness Video game and I was really having second thoughts if I should proceed with a review of this one. It may not offer anything new, genre wise but being given a theme-park style mini-games might interest some of the younger gamers out there.

You'll begin by having an introduction of being given a ticket that permits you to enter the Horrorland Amusement park. And even if you tried ripping the ticket into pieces, it magically made itself whole again (oooh scaarryy!!). Then your friend (who by the way looks exactly like the main character, only with a darker skin tone) informed you that he also have a ticket ... yada-yada-yada ... and you'll basically end up inside Horrorland.

The game is in 3d but I for one cannot understand why the camera is fixed which makes it frustrating to follow the static map on the top-screen. Trying to figure out which way to go is a "nightmare" in itself. But once you get to the rides or booth, then the fun should start ... right? Well that's the problem, even though some of the games here are quite fun. They're not the type of mini-games that you'll probably try and play for a second round. Sure the idea of riding a roller coaster or a boat ride might be fun, but it's actually the opposite. Other games include shoot a vamp with cloves of garlic, hitting bats with a baseball bat ... do I really need to mention the other mini-games? Oh and yes, you can only play if you have enough tokens, but some mini-games are so easy to win, you can have enough tokens to purchase the entire amusement park if you want to. The game tends to encourage you to do your best by awarding you with "scare points" that enables you to unlock some of the rides.

The graphics is your typical "could have been better" DS quality. Same can be said with the sound. There is a mix of buttons and touchscreen controls here, and tutorials are given before the start of every mini-game.

Kids might like some of the mini-games offered here, but teens and up should just probably skip this one. In its defense however, I still consider this game better than Rayman TV Party.

.:My reviews are only as good as everyone else's. Take every single one of them with a grain of salt:.
