Classic side scrolling action!

Until a few weeks ago, I honestly didn't even know that there have been Gradius games released on the PS2. I thought that the side-scrolling shooter genre was dead. Then I'm just browsing through Gamespot and I see that Gradius III & IV, and also Gradius V have been released on the PS2. I knew right away that I had to get one of these games!

Gradius V got better reviews than Gradius III & IV, so this is the version I bought. I have not been disappointed. Gradius brings the same simple enjoyable action that I remember from playing Defender on the Atari 2600 and Life Force on the NES as a kid. There is nothing complicated at all about this game, no intricate plot, and the graphics and sounds aren't particularly good. None of that matters though. The game is all about mashing the fire button, collecting power-ups, and dodging enemies. It also makes for great two-player fun. I recommend Gradius V for anyone over 25, or anyone that misses simple old-school style gaming.
